In the future, Garry oak and associated ecosystems may play an increasingly important role in Canada with the progression of global climate change. Species in these ecosystems are adapted to a warm climate with an extended summer drought. We need comprehensive conservation strategies to ensure that all of the resident species survive to spread

Project Overview (Current Status) Taylor’s Checkerspot butterfly (TCB) is an Endangered species in Canada. Also known as Whulge or Edith’s Checkerspot ( Euphydryas editha taylori ), they were once common in Garry Oak ecosystems, wet meadows and disturbed habitats from the Comox Valley and Hornby Island in BC to the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
Where Do They Exist? In Canada, Garry oak ecosystems exist only in British Columbia — almost exclusively within a narrow coastal strip of southeast Vancouver Island, in the nearby Gulf Islands, and in two areas of the Fraser River Valley. The current global distribution of Garry oak ecosystems spans an extensive north-south range, from
