The recent development of gallstone fragmentation methods has increased the significance of the study of the mechanical properties of human gallstones. In the present work, fracture strength data and microhardness values of gallstones of various chemical compositions are presented as tested in both dry and simulated bile environments.
ConsultaHistory of Saint Petersburg. The city of Saint Petersburg was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on 27 May 1703. It became the capital of the Russian Empire and remained as such for more than two hundred years (1712–1728, 1732–1918). Saint Petersburg ceased being the capital in 1918 after the October Coup.
ConsultaIt is suggested that the gallstone matrix may inhibit stone dissolution even after stone fragmentation, and cholesterol and mixed gallstone dissolution in vitro by methyltert-butyl ether (MTBE) after gallstone fragmentation is examined. This study examined cholesterol and mixed gallstone dissolution in vitroby methyltert-butyl ether (MTBE) after gallstone

ConsultaThe presence of gas in a gallstone can profoundly affect the ability of shock waves to fragment the stone by various mechanisms. In the present study, the aim was to
ConsultaBackground Most retained gallstones can be extracted at the time of operative exploration or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Infrequently, impaction or associated anatomic abnormalities may prevent their clearance. We assessed the efficacy of the holmium: YAG laser in managing retained biliary calculi that had proven refractory to
ConsultaLithotripsy is a medical procedure that uses shock waves to break up stones in the body. The shock waves are created by a machine called a lithotripter. Lithotripsy is used to treat kidney stones and gallstones. The lithotripter
ConsultaAbstract. With a Wolf Ultrasonic lithotrite, gallstones from 12 patients were fragmented in vitro. The average fragmentation time was 20 seconds compared with 4 days when they could be dissolved by monooctanoin. A stone from one patient could not be fragmented successfully. The ability of ultrasound to fragment gallstones did not depend on

ConsultaTo substantiate the early results of extracorporeal shock-wave fragmentation of gallstones, we used this nonsurgical procedure to treat 175 patients with radiolucent gallbladder calculi.
ConsultaWe find that the physical mechanisms of stone fragmentation appear to be quite different in the two cases. Using high-speed photography, measurement of acoustic transients, time-resolved optical emission spectroscopy, and direct microscopic observation, we have analyzed the interaction of the Ho:YAG laser with both water and gallstones.
ConsultaHigh-energy shock waves generated extracorporeally have been successfully employed for nonsurgical fragmentation of kidney stones. 7 Consequently, Brendel and Enders 8 have studied the effects of
ConsultaIn vitro fragmentation of gallstones was performed by means of ultrasound (n = 89) and electrohydraulic lithotripsy (n = 83) with success rates of 100% and 93%, respectively. The fragmentation time was 21.9 +/- 52 seconds (mean +/- SEM) for ultrasound and 2.5 +/- 3.4 seconds for electrohydraulic lit

ConsultaAbstract. Recently extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) has been introduced as a nonoperative treatment for gallstone disease. Except for lung damage, no significant adverse effects of ESWL of gallbladder stones have been observed in animals. In clinical use ESWL of gallbladder stones is now confined to 15% to 30% of symptomatic patients.
